2015 Anime Summer Reviews, Part 1! The Pre-Season Expectation!
Pre-season expectation!
Summer; the season of hotness. Ironically there are more erotic anime this season compared to the last two seasons this year. Yet again I have build several expectation that I put onto my watchlist. As usual, I will be doing three reviews and I have sorted the list in ascending order. So then let us start the countdown!
19. Gakkou Gurashi
From a manga that I’m currently following. The premise is quite amusing. Although I don’t expect it to be animated, I see no harm picking this up. Especially since I don’t put high expectation on school manga adaptation.
18. Sore ga Seiyuu
Just like above. The difference is that I don’t familiar with this’s source material, and that I don’t put more high expectation in 4-koma manga adaptation.
17. Okusama ga Seitokaichou!
I heard this title being popular lately, but I haven’t put myself around it because lack of interest. Knowing that it’s getting animated is good chance to catch up.
16. Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan
Supernatural, school, and magic is not my favourite genre combination. I decide to pick it up upon familiarising myself with the source material and found that the world is actually quite interesting.
15. Wakaba Girls
Just cause.
14. Classroom☆Crisis
To be honest, this is one of the shows that I find hard to assess just from first glances. Picking this up because of curiousity and the lack of source material.
13. Overlord
One of the light novels that I keep on hearing these past years, although so, I haven’t had the chance to familiarise myself with it. Seeing the quality of this made me even more pessimistic about Madhouse’s adaptation of Onepunch Man in the following season.
12. Kangoku Gakuen
If you know the source material, then there is no reason not to follow this.
11. Monster Musume no iru Nichijou
This is third and the last ecchi anime in my watchlist for this season. Reason to pick up is same as above.
10. Himouto! Umaru-chan
Same as two aboves.
9. Working!!!
Although A-1 was disappointing the last few seasons, I’m willing to give them another chance because of what this series has been the last two seasons. Although usually I don’t put much hopes on 4koma manga adaptation, but I’m giving this one exception.
8. Charlotte
Not much known about this yet, mainly because there isn’t any source material for it. At first glance, I expect it to be something like Itou Junji’s Nazo no Tenkousei. But I might be putting too much hope.
7. Gangsta
Yeeah, frankly there is only one sheer reason why I’m picking this up: because of the lack of crime drama genre in this nor previous season. Having this on board should at least freshen up my watchlist.
6. Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace
One of my highlight this season, it’s original source and mystery-supernatural genre immediately piqued my interest and put it among the top place of my watchlist.
5. Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen'eki
This has been mentioned—and may I emphasise “heavily”—several times during the last two seasons. It’s been said to be collaboration of renowned anime writers and has a lot expectation put into it. I myself can’t see it as a potent work due to minimum info available. Depending on previous information, I pick this up and put it among the top of my watchlist hoping for the best.
4. God Eater
Although post-apocalyptic and monster infestation has become an overused premise, especially on handheld Japanese game. This time expectation arises because of the studio responsible for animating it. I don’t too familiar with the source material, but I have witnessed that this franchise is quite challenging. Although let’s face it, it has been a few times that game-to-anime adaptation is proven to be despicable.
3. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi Nite, Kaku Tatakaeri
Ever since its greenlit two seasons ago, I can’t get enough words to express my hype. Despite A-1—I say it again—has been disappointing lately when comes to action, but damn, it’s GATE.
2. Akagami no Shirayukihime
Bones yet adapting another drama. I am not familiar with the source material, but the premise alone is quite promising to be a good drama, which I don’t see many in current season lineup.
1. Rokka no Yuusha
The highest place in my starting of the season. Supposedly a sleeper hit this season, which is—as usual—is what I after. The trailer alone shows enough promise about the art style, which is a lot like Katanagatari. And that sold me more than enough.
I see quite a lot of potential this season, which is why my watchlist has been overly swollen. By the end of the first week, I should be able to eliminate a lot of them. We will see which the odd will favour in my next episode of Summer Anime Review Part 2!
